Assassins | 2008
Assassins premiered in 1991 when America first went into Iraq in the“Gulf war”. Two weeks later it closed. The general populous couldn't accept a work that was so anti-patriotic. It was set to have a revival on Broadway in 2001 but the World Trade Center came down. Again it wasn’t appropriate to put on a show that questions the governments role in collapsing the American Dream. In 2004, Assassins, a show about people who killed are tried to kill American presidents, finally had its moment of success after George Bush had been president for 3 years.
Some of us are opera singers, some have done musical theatre, and some of us just like to sing. We hope you’ll join us in Stephen Sondheim’s dark musical that not only questions the ideals of America but how we all have become wrapped up in the violent times of the present. Oh and by the way…it’s a comedy too.
