EPILOGUE Postcards From The Future | 2012
We need about 150 people, purchasing the book during our Pre-Sale : then its release is assured !
Dear,
We are writing to you in order to inform you about the upcoming release of a book by our collective C&H (Christophe Meierhans, Christoph Ragg, Heike Langsdorf). More particularily, we are making an appeal to you, because we would need to sell a certain amount of this book in advance, in order to be able to finance its realization! Perhaps you — or your organization — would be interested in this publication and would like to subscribe to it already now and help us to bring it out? You will find hereunder more information about this project, as well as a link to the order form. With many thanks in advance for your potential help, Warm greetings, C&H
POSTCARDS FROM THE FUTURE - EPILOGUE
Past season, the artists' collective C&H has realized a public art project in Brussels entitled Postcards from the Future: 9 postcards served as invitations to 9 performances which were developed and realized in 9 different districts of the city of Brussels. This series of 9 postcards / performances represented an attempt at a portraiting the multiplicity making out Belgium and Europe's capital city.
(more information about and documentation of the project can be found at: http://www.postcardsfromthefuture.be/)
At present, C&H is working at the realization of a book about this project, that will document it and thematize the aspects most relevant to the issues of artistic action in the public domain. The book's title: Postcards from the Future - Epilogue.
This publication will give a richly illustrated overview of the 9 postcards / performances which composed the project Postcards from the Future in Brussels. At the same time, as its name suggests, this book will bean epilogue of the project. The aim is so not to place this public art project on a pedestal, but, on the contrary, to take a critical look in retrospect at the project as it has been realized as well as at the different lines of force and specific artistic practices at its core.
Thanks to a meticulous selection of photographs, performance scripts, postcard sketches, email communication, local press excerpts, etc. , the reader will be given an insight into the genesis of these 9 urban portraits, as well as into the difficulties and questionnings with which the artists have been confronted during the realization of the project. In some cases, extra text material will be generated, for instance in the form of specifically commissioned texts, or interviews with people who have taken part in the project. The chosen approach for the editing of this book is deliberately non-systematic. The challenge is on the contrary to find a form which will correspond the most to the multitude of different perspectives which came about throughout the project. Each one of these 9 postcards / performances will be "portaited" in the fashion most suitable to its specificities.
The funding we have managed to raise for the realization of this book being by far still unsufficient, C&H is turning towards you in order to ask for your support! If you (or your organization) are interested in this book, you can already now prenotate one or several copies. By doing so, you will make possible the realization of the very book you are acquiring!
This appeal is being sent to ca. 1500 persons. If only 10% of these subscribe to the presale of our book, we will already manage to cover its financing.
The book launch will take place on 13 June 2012 during an inaugural evening at the KVS, in Brussels. You are very warmly invited to join us there!
