SPEND-A-TALK | 2006
Between the 14th of August and the 14th of September a small recording studio was installed in Tani (Nadine). On a surface of 9m2, set with audio and video recording devices, Heike Langsdorf invited very different people to come and 'spend a talk'.
Invited two at a time to engage in a 'tete a tete' with the host, each talk was initiated by Heike Langsdorf, who began by giving an overview of 'spend-it', a project she was developing together with Antoine Desvignes and that would take place in April of the following year. After this 'briefing' the conversation could take its own course according to the will and interest of the different participants. All conversations were recorded and filmed from above.
Starting from a specific context - a project that would be soon activated, the situation allowed those invited to direct the conversation to the places he or she was interested in. The situation was considered as a 'moment to speak' departing from the specific content related to 'spend-it': how are projects funded and how does this influence (or not) the way a work develops in terms of form, content, communication and visibility.
Bits and pieces of the conversations were re-constructed into an hour long movie called 'VOICE OVER - The Conference that Never Took Place'. SPEND-A-TALK can be seen as the 'making of' a virtual image of spend-it, a report and analysis of an upcoming event.
From the 31st of march until the 21st of April, VOICE OVER was projected at the different venues of spend-it, confronting the virtual image of the project with its actual execution.

short on spend-it
In 2003, Antoine Desvigne bought an apartment in Brussels. In 2006, its value had increased. He decided to spend the gain in an event called spend-it. He invited Heike Langsdorf to design this event together. For starting, the future gain was materialized into tokens. The tokens were printed and released in March 2006. A token had an indicative value of 15 Euro. Then, we contacted 18 people. Each one received 100 tokens in exchange of any kind of production 'presented' during the public period. During one year, the 18 people spread their tokens (considering their future value) during their every-day-life. Between 31st of March and 21st of April 2007, all the people with tokens, a heterogenous population mixing artists of all kind, homeless, art-collectors, cyclists, hobby-cooks, etc. ... had converged to "spend-it".
