sprint for europe | 2007
In August 2007, International Festival was invited by architecture curator Markus Miessen to contribute to a project for the Lyon Biennale: Miessen invited 100 groups and individuals to create a drawing of their vision of Europe on a single A4 page. All 100 A4's would be glued to the wall in the Biennale and would afterwards be published in a book by Sternberg (Berlin) to be released at Art Basel Miami.
Instead of submitting their own drawing, International Festival decided to invite 32 of their friends to make a drawing on a section of the A4. The contributions should make sense as an A9 format, or 52 x 37 mm. Instead of a single image of Europe, International Festival’s A4 would be a cavalcade of tiny Europes next to each other, celebrating friendship and the fall of the nation state.
In response to the invitation of International Festival, C+H decided to propose their own division of the A9 section given to them and to invite a further 9 friends to join them. Claiming a 10th part of an A9 (37 mm x 5,2 mm) were contributions from C&H, Joanna Bailie, Christel Coppens, Samir Mougas, Pacqome Béru, Ula Sickle/Rebecca September, Anna Rispoli, Merédith Trash, Virginie Pislot, Laurent Liefooghe and David Helbich.
